individual Therapy

Individual therapy (also known as psychotherapy or counseling) is a cooperative process between a therapist and the therapy client. Common goals of therapy include:

  • change unhelpful behaviors

  • improve quality of life

  • adapt to environmental change

  • process grief and loss

  • improve relationships

  • manage mood

  • increase capacity to handle difficulty

Therapy can help people master their well-being, increase psychological flexibility, compassion, awareness, and self-worth. People in therapy can gain and practice skills for handling crucial situations, making healthy choices, and achieving goals. Therapy can be short term (several weeks) to long term (several years), depending on the treatment goals agreed upon by the client and the therapist.

Many people choose to continue therapy even after fulfilling the primary goals that led to therapy, often for continued self growth and achievement of new expansive goals.
